Renato Tavares was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1968. He started training in BJJ at the age of 6 years old with Geni Rebello now 85 years old. Geni Rebello is one of the best masters in Brazil and he is a black belt from Carlos e Helio Gracie.
Renato Tavares is a world renowned authority in the area of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Grappling Enhancement and is one of the best coaches in grappling activity. His thirst for knowledge has made Renato a technician par excellence.
Tavares has been training for about 36 years and competing for more than 30 years.
In 2003, Renato moved to Florida to train with the American Top Team (ATT), recognized today as one of the best MMA teams in the world.
In 2009 he took 1st place in Florida States, Nationals, Pan American and Miami International Championships. He also got 3rd Place in American Nationals in Absolute, Pan America Absolute,and Abu Dhabi Pro BJJ. Renato Tavares has pure Jiu Jitsu in his body. Precise, technical, versatile, and always looking to employ techniques and surprises against his opponents.
Suraj Budhram (Children’s Program)
Born and raised in NYC Suraj is now a Vero Beach resident. He attended IRSC and received a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Management. He is CPR and First AID certified.
He is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu under Renato Tavares. He also achieved Army Combatives Level I in Self Defense.
He started to train Brazilian Jiujitsu, MMA, and Fitness Since 2010 and is an active competitor.

Dr. Paulie Gloves Gold Gloves Boxing (Vero Beach & Port St. Lucie)
Beyond his work in education and human services, Paul is a highly successful professional boxing and mixed martial arts coach. Paulie applies the science of human behavior to coach multiple fighters to championship titles at varying levels worldwide.
Training in MMA since 2002, Dr. Paul “Paulie Gloves” Gavoni continues to be sought out by many fighters as he is widely respected by Florida’s MMA community for his coaching ability.
In 1992, Coach Paulie began boxing in South Florida and went on to win the Florida Golden Gloves Title in 1998. In 2001, under the tutelage of renowned boxing Coach Milton Lacroix, Paulie learned how to develop a fighter’s speed and punching power by employing a system that focused on natural body mechanics.
A featured coach in the book,” Beast: Blood, Struggle, and Dreams at the Heart of Mixed Martial Arts”, Coach Paulie is also an author who has written for online magazines such Scifighting and Last Word on Sports. He and Manual Rodriguez published “Quick Wins”, behavioral science for school turnarounds.
Melissa Bentley started training BJJ in 2010 and has been training and competing for 6 years. She is a multiple World and Pan American champion and has won or placed in many other tournaments.
Melissa received her black belt December 2015 and is Renato Tavares’ first female black belt.
Her dedication to jiu jitsu will remain as she is constantly learning to be a better student, instructor and person.
Shaughn Koukos (Boxing and Women’s Fitness)
Shaughn has lived in Florida for most of his life. He has been training for 13 years and is a jiu jitsu black belt under Renato Tavares.
Shaughn fought for Fight Time Promotions and is currently retired from professional fighting.
He is also a certified health and fitness coach and a jiu jitsu instructor at Legacy Vero Beach in the Miracle Mile.
Eldridge is the consummate volunteer. He is knowledgable, personable and enthusiastic. He is a lifelong resident of Gifford.
His Bachelors and Masters degrees are from University of Florida. He currently works as a USDA research technician.
He has achieved the level of brown belt under Renato Tavares.
